How To Clean WHITE Hey Dudes By Hand To Remove Stains From Canvas Shoes

Are your Hey Dudes shoes nasty, stained and dirty? My neighbor taught me the trick to cleaning WHITE Hey Dudes shoes by hand so they are sparkling bright white and looking brand new.

This works for ALL white canvas shoes, tennis shoes and sneakers – it’s pretty darn amazing!

So I was talking with my neighbor, Sue (obviously not her real name, but she IS my neighbor). Her boys have White Hey Dudes and she does too. However, the boy’s shoes get SUPER nasty – especially with all the Georgia red clay in their area mixed with ALL the grass stains and nastiness boys can do to their white sneakers.

I asked her – how in the WORLD do you keep their white Hey Dude shoes SO clean? In fact, ALL their white tennis shoes and sneakers always look brand new!

Below is what she shared with me…and let me tell ya…. it WORKS!

She said – “Girl, it took me a while to find the perfect formula, but here’s what I do…”

First, get some mild detergent, a soft-bristled brush, and a clean cloth.

Start by mixing a small amount of detergent with warm water in a bowl.

Dip the brush into the soapy water and gently scrub the surface of the shoes to remove any dirt or stains.

Be sure to pay extra attention to the areas around the laces and the sole of the shoe, as these areas tend to get the dirtiest.

Then Sue said, and I thought this was important –

Yep, that made a BIG difference in getting those stains out!

Once you have thoroughly scrubbed the shoes, rinse them off with clean water to remove any remaining soap residue.

Use the clean cloth to remove any excess water from the shoes, and then let them air dry completely.

Do not put the shoes in the dryer, as this can cause them to shrink or get all warped.

Now, here’s the REAL gem in what Sue told me.

The steps above are great for lightly stained Hey Dudes, but if they’re REALLY nasty, you need to do this:

How To Get Georgia Red Clay Stains Out?

The best way to get Georgia red clay stains out of your white canvas Hey Dudes shoes is to first use a soft brush to remove any excess dirt and clay. Then, mix a solution of warm water and mild laundry detergent and use a clean cloth to gently rub the solution onto the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water. If the stain persists, try soaking the shoes overnight in cold water with a few drops of dish soap. After soaking, rinse the shoes with cold water and allow to air dry.

Can I use Dawn Powerwash to clean them?

Yes, you can use Dawn Powerwash to clean your white canvas Hey Dudes shoes. What about bleach?

However, bleach CAN be used for other white canvas sneakers or tennis shoes.

Here’s how to clean WHITE shoes with bleach and other hand-cleaning options:

Some Tips and Tricks:

For White Leather or White faux leather shoes:

1) Use sponge or dry clean cloth to get rid of dust from the shoes.
2) Use this Stain Eraser to remove tough stains.
3) Use another separate sponge or dry clean cloth to get rid of eraser residue.

Those steps, alone, work really well.

If you want to bring the shine, then during Step 2) use this foaming stubborn stain remover to spray on shoe and then use eraser to remove stains.

It will 100% bring the shine back to your white shoe. THE GOAL IS TO USE NO WATER ON THESE TYPE OF SHOES, as it would deteriorate the quality of your shoes (obviously, this does NOT apply to washing WHITE canvas Hey Dudes by hand…we MUST use water to clean ours).

Can I put them in the dryer?

No, it is not recommended to put your white canvas Hey Dudes shoes in the dryer. The heat from the dryer can damage the fabric and lead to discoloration. Allow the shoes to air dry instead.

Can I put them in the washing machine?

Yes, you can put your white canvas Hey Dudes shoes in the washing machine. Place the shoes in a mesh laundry bag and set the machine to a gentle cycle. Do not use bleach or fabric softener as this can damage the fabric. Allow the shoes to air dry before wearing.

No, baking soda vinegar paste is NOT recommended for cleaning white Hey Dudes. The homemade paste cleaning solution gets stuck EVERYWHERE in your Hey Dudes and does nothing to clean them.

You CAN try a non-gel whitening toothpaste with a brush – I’ve had SOME luck removing stains from my Hey Dudes using that. Just beware, toothpaste can possible make the rubber part of your Hey Dudes soles turn yellow.
