Let’s face it – the fireplace IS the focal point in your living room or den – and NOTHING brings down a beautiful space more than a BORING fireplace.

I walked into MY living room last month and it hit me just how BORING my fireplace was. A big mirror, 2 candles – and some centuries-old golf trophy from my hubby’s younger years.

NOT impressive at ALL – ugh!

Of course I decorate my fireplace mantel and hearth for Christmas, but I wanted some really pretty (and fairly simple) EVERYDAY decorating ideas for my fireplace area.

That sparked me into action to redecorate not only the fireplace mantel and hearth, but the area AROUND the fireplace as well.

And my favorite decor style is: FARMHOUSE, baby!

Farmhouse Fireplace Decorating Ideas

When it comes to farmhouse fireplace ideas, there’s a lot of ways you can decorate the hearth and mantle to give your space that modern farmhouse or rustic country cottage feel.

One popular idea is to go for a shabby-chic look by using a mix of vintage pieces and modern decor. You could add a vintage-looking mirror above the mantle and a set of vintage candlesticks on the hearth. Then, add some modern elements like a set of geometric-shaped vases and a few potted succulents.

Another idea is to go for a more rustic look by using reclaimed wood for the mantle and surrounding the fireplace with a mix of rustic and vintage decor. You could add a set of vintage lanterns, an old-fashioned clock, and a few rustic-looking picture frames.

For a more modern farmhouse look, you could keep things simple by using a plain white mantle and surrounding the fireplace with clean lines and minimal decor. You could add a few framed black-and-white photos, a simple vase of flowers, and a sleek clock.

No matter what style you choose, the key is to play around with different decor elements and have fun creating a space that truly reflects your personal style.

Barn Door Fireplace Covers

I love this ideas for making a fireplace cover that looks like barn doors – in fact, the whole brick fireplace makeover is GORGEOUS!

There are many Do It Yourself options for making a fireplace cover that looks like barn doors. One idea is to use reclaimed barn wood to create a sliding cover for your fireplace. You can purchase reclaimed barn wood or if you’re up for it, you can also salvage the wood yourself.

The basic steps involve measuring your fireplace, cutting the barn wood to size, attaching it to a sliding mechanism, and installing it in front of your fireplace.

You can also add some hardware like handles or knobs to the barn doors, giving them an authentic look.
